Multicultural Children’s Book Day

I am excited to be participating in the 10th Annual Multicultural Children’s Book Day.

I was gifted Cookie & Milk: A Scientifically Stunt-tastic Sisterhood. It is the sweet story of two girls who are polar opposites, but best friends.

The story emphasizes that different character traits can complement each other.

What I enjoyed most about the book was the engaging questions for parents, teachers, or caregivers at the beginning of the book. The author provides discussion questions that open the dialog up about multi-racial families and blended families. It is also a great book to help start the dialog about adoption with young children.

Additionally, the storyline celebrates females in STEM (science, technology, engineering & math). The story weaves in and defines the job responsibilities of Engineers, Mathematicians, and Scientists.

More importantly, the children loved Cookie & Milk’s adventures!

Bravo to author Michele McAvoy, and Jessica Gibson (Illustrator)! This book is perfect for foster parents, adoptive parents, step-parents, bi-racial parents, caregivers, teachers, and homeschoolers!

Multicultural Children’s Book Day 2023 (1/26/22) is in its 10th year! This non-profit children’s literacy initiative was founded by Valarie Budayr and Mia Wenjen; two diverse book-loving moms who saw a need to shine the spotlight on all of the multicultural books and authors on the market while also working to get those books into the hands of young readers and educators.

Ten years in, MCBD’s mission is to raise awareness of the ongoing need to include kids’ books that celebrate diversity in homes and school bookshelves continues. Read about our Mission & History HERE.
